WPL 2025
Delhi Capitals (DC) skipper Meg Lanning hit her ninth Women’s Premier League (WPL) fifty against Gujarat Giants (GG) in the 17th WPL 2025 game getting played at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. The toss fell in GG skipper Ashleigh Gardner’s favour as she invited the two-time runners-up to bat first. Delhi got a blistering start from their openers from captain Meg Lanning and Shafali Verma. Both built an 83-run stand for the opening wicket. Verma departed after amassing 40 off 27 with six boundaries. Pacer Meghna Singh delivered the breakthrough to her team in the form of Varma and brought her team back into the contest.
Following Shafali’s wicket, DC's innings slowed down as they failed to capitalise the start they got from both openers. Capitals’ mainstay batters Jess Jonassen, Jemimah Rodrigues, and Annabel Sutherland got dismissed without producing anything solid from their bats. However, Lanning didn’t lose hope and continued her onslaught until the last over of the innings. Former Australia captain went back to the dugout after notching up 92 off just 57. This knock has become the best of her WPL career.
Delhi deliver 178-run target to Gujarat
Gujarat will have to chase down 178 to fortify their chances to advance for the playoffs for the first time. Meghna Singh was the most-successful bowler for Gujarat in the first innings with 3/35 figures in four overs. GG will bank on their Australia stalwarts Beth Mooney and skipper Gardner to complete the chase as both have been the most-successful batters for the team.
Currently, the Giants are in the third spot on the points table with three wins while Delhi are leading the tally with five victories and two defeats. DC will finish their round-robin stage after the conclusion of this game. On the other hand, Gujarat will take on Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Brabourne Stadium on March 10.
