UP Warriorz defeated Delhi Capitals by 33 runs on Saturday, February 25, at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, to secure their first victory of the WPL 2025 season. A power-filled knock from Chinelle Henry, including eight sixes, helped UP Warriorz reach a total of 177 before the brilliant spells from Kranti Goud and Grace Harris of four wickets each allowed them get this all important victory. This match puts Delhi capitals in third place on the points table having won two and lost two of their first four matches, while their opponents jumped to fourth place in the five-team competition.

For the unversed, Delhi Capitals won the toss and captain Meg Lanning opted to field first with the bowling attack of UP Warriorz really restricting the top and middle order of UP Warriorz. Australian spinner Jess Jonassen picked up four crucial wickets including the skipper Tahila Sharma and the dangerous Tahila McGrarth. Arundhati Reddy and Marizanne Kapp picked up two wickets each as well.

Herculean knock of 62 by Chinelle Henry includes 8 sixes

After losing quite a lot of wickets without a significant score on the board, West Indies all rounder Chinelle Henry took matters into her own hands, delivering a remarkable batting performance. She scored 62 runs off mere 23 deliveries, registering eight sixes in the innings at a massive strike rate of 269.

In the run chase, Delhi Capitals had a decent start with Shafali Varma and Jemimah Rodrigues putting up a decent partnership after captain Meg Lanning got dismissed early on. Jemimah Rodrigues even managed to get a solid half-century in the match, but bowling brilliance from Kranti Goud and Grace Harris meant that Delhi Capitals were bundled over for 144 with 3 balls to spare. Grace Harris bowled a particularly brilliant spell, getting four wickets in just 2.3 overs, which included a hat-trick.

UP Warriorz, now handed a boost by their first win in this edition, will take on current table toppers Royal Challengers on February 24, while Delhi Capitals will face off against the Gujarat Giants on February 25.
