Indian captain Virat Kohli’s 9-month old daughter was recently subject to online rape threats on Twitter after the skipper stood up to support his teammate Mohammad Shami. The threat was in response to Kohli’s message that slammed the religious discrimination which was apparently directed at Shami (the only Muslim player in the Indian side) after facing a 10-wicket defeat against arch-rivals Pakistan. Waking up to the online threats to Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma’s daughter, Delhi Commission for Women has stepped in issuing a notice and urging the Delhi Police to share the details regarding the police investigation, describing the matter of serious concern which needs immediate attention.

DCW issues notice; urges Delhi Police to provide information

Following the shocking online threats to the Indian skipper’s nine-month-old daughter the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) has issued a notice to the Delhi Police. The notice sought information about the copy of FIR, details of the accused and “action taken report” in the matter.

“If no accused has been arrested, please provide the details of steps taken by Delhi Police to arrest the accused,” the notice stated.

The police have been asked to provide the information by November 8.

In particular, the notice emphasized on a tweet made by a Twitter user threatening to rape Kohli’s daughter. The tweet was made by a user with the name @Criccrazygirl, which was later deleted. However, a few netizens alleged that the tweet was made from a Pakistani account.

Kohli received severe criticism for slamming the trolls directed at Mohammad Shami

Indian skipper Virat Kohli stepped up for his fellow teammate Mohammad Shami who was subjected to harsh trolls on the lines of religion after the forgetful defeat against Pakistan in India’s opening game of the ongoing T20 World Cup. A day before India’s second game against New Zealand, Kohli slammed the trolls who attacked Shami’s religion.

“Attacking someone over their religion is the most pathetic thing one can do as a human. That is a very sacred and personal thing. People take out their frustration because they have no understanding of what we do," he mentioned.

The Indian skipper is being subjected to a lot of criticism off late, given Team India’s performance in the ongoing World Cup, as India has lost both their games so far. Currently placed 5th in the group, the Indian side needs to win the remaining three matches with huge margins, to have any chance to qualify for the semifinals.
