The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) received an anonymous bomb threat via email on Friday morning, May 9, wherein the sender talked about blowing up the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi to take revenge for Operation Sindoor initiated by Indian Army on terrorists in Pakistan. The aforementioned stadium is the home ground of the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Delhi Capitals, and shortly after the threat, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) suspended the tournament for a week amid security concerns for the players.

Notably, the decision to stop the IPL 2025 came after the match 58th between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) was called off at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium in Dharamshala due to significant technical failure. Afterwards, both the teams were taken to Delhi via travel arrangements made by the BCCI after the airport in Himachal Pradesh was shut down due to security reasons.

The blast will be our revenge of Operation Sindoor: Anonymous email read

In the report published by Zee News, a top official of the DDCA revealed the contents of the email sent anonymously to them in regards to the bomb threat for the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi apart from stating that the police complaint in the matter has been registered. The email read, “There will be a bomb blast in your stadium. We have a committed Pakistan sleeper cell active in India. The blast will be our revenge of Operation Sindoor.”

Prior to the bomb threat, the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi had already hosted four home matches of DC in the IPL 2025 season. Their final home match of the campaign for Delhi Capitals at this venue was slated to happen on Sunday, May 11, against Gujarat Titans, but with the immediate suspension of the league, everything is now up in the air in regards to the schedule.
