Tamil Nadu skipper Dinesh Karthik is all set to make his commentary debut in the upcoming India-England white-ball series. Karthik along with Stuart Broad have been roped in as commentators by the broadcasters who will also televise the matches in India. The announcement was made by them on Monday. DK has not been part of the national team since the 2019 World Cup.

It is also being reported that Karthik will join the commentary team only after fulfilling his commitments with Tamil Nadu who are playing the Vijay Hazare Trophy. The league stages of the matches of the List A tournament will end on March 1, with Tamil Nadu playing their last match on February 28. Meanwhile the next round of matches will commence from March 7 and in case Tamil Nadu do qualify for it, DK will have a delayed entry into the commentary box.

Karthik joins elite list of the Indian cricketers in the commentary box

Karthik, who has donned Indian colours in 94 One Day Internationals and 32 T20 Internationals scoring 1752 and 399 runs at an average of 30.2 and 33.2 respectively, will join an elite list of Indian cricketers on the broadcast. The list is headed by veteran spinner Harbhajan Singh but also features names like like former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir, former wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel and Kerala batsman Robin Uthappa.

Team India not looking at DK at the moment

After retirement of MS Dhoni from international cricket, selectors have made it pretty clear that they are looking at younger options like Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan. This implies that despite his good performances in the domestic circuit he has not been able to convince the national selectors of his utility. It remains to be seen, if he manages to make the squad for the ICC T20 World Cup later this year. Although, as of now, he seems far from being in the radar.
