India clinched the three-game T20I series in a thrilling third game at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. After another sub-par bowling performance, the Men in Blue chased down a total of 186, thanks to half-centuries by Suryakumar Yadav and Virat Kohli. The duo stitched up a massive partnership of 104 runs that shifted the tide in India’s favour.

Yadav scored a scintillating 69 off 36 balls with five fours and five sixes. But after the match, in a conversation with left-arm spinner Axar Patel, the Mumbai Indians star revealed that he was dealing with stomach ache and fever. The 32-year-old notably requested the team doctor and physio to give him some medication which would make him fit for the fixture.

“Because of weather change and travelling, I was having some stomach ache and then I got a fever as well. At the same time, I knew that this was the decider. So I told the doctor and physio if this is the World Cup final, how would I react?,” he said.

“I cannot stay sick like this. Do anything, give me any medicine or injection, but get me ready for the game. After reaching the ground and wearing the jersey, there is a different emotion,” the in-form batter added.

Later in the interview, Patel asked the Mumbai-born batter the secret behind his batting success as Yadav has put 115 runs in this series and has been one of India’s best batters in 2022. Reacting to the question, SKY addressed how he spends a lot of time in nets, playing the way he would bat in a match.

He said, “I practice in the nets the way I bat in a match. I always believe in expressing myself. If my success rate doing that is more than 75 per cent, then why not? If things are going well for me, I try to finish the game in that phase itself.” For these heroics, Suryakumar Yadav was awarded the Player of the Match award while the interviewer Axar Patel was adjourned as the Player of the Series.
