India celebrates its National Sports Day on 29th August. However, there would be only a few people who will be aware of the reason behind it. The day is celebrated in the loving memory of Indian hockey legend Major Dhyanchand, who was born on 29th August.

The Wizard won three Olympic gold medals in 1928, 1932, and 1936. He is reckoned as India's greatest hockey player. From 1926 to 1949, he represented his country in 185 games, scoring 570 goals. Interestingly, Sir Don Bradman had acknowledged and compared Dhyanchand's goal-scoring skills to his run-scoring abilities in cricket.

Documentary on the early of the legend is in production

As per reports, Joyeeta Roy, a producer and entrepreneur, and Prateek Kumar Mishra, a multimedia campaigner for Dhyan Chand's Bharat Ratna award, will work on the documentary. The documentary will concentrate on the hockey wizard's early life and struggles.

The producers discussed the idea with Dhyan Chand son's, Ashok Dhyanchand. They were preparing to start the shoot in 2020, but the shooting got delayed due to Coronavirus.

Although the COVID-19 situation in the country is worrying, the documentary's pre-production may begin in June. The producers are aiming to release it on 3rd December, on the legend's 42nd death anniversary.
