Since Team India lost to Pakistan in their Super Four opener in the Asia Cup 2022, Indian seamer Arshdeep Singh has become a target for trolls and abuses on social media. Many Indian cricketers including former skipper Virat Kohli and pacer Mohammed Shami have shown solidarity with Arshdeep.

In the 18th over, Asif Ali survived a dismissal chance as Arshdeep Singh dropped an easy-looking catch on Ravi Bishnoi's delivery. When the catch was dropped, Asif was batting on one run off two balls and he went on to score 15 runs in the next five deliveries before being dismissed on the second-last delivery of the match by Arshdeep.

Following the incident, many people trolled and abused Arshdeep while his former Punjab Kings XI teammate Mohammed Shami supported the youngster by advising him to not let these trolls 'hamper' him.

Shami, who had himself had to go through a similar experience after India's defeat to Pakistan in the T20 World Cup in 2021, told Times Now: "They only live to troll us, have no other job. When we perform well they don’t say you took a good catch but will troll us? Agar dam hai toh real accounts se aaye na, fake account se toh koi bhi msg kar sakta hai (If you have the audacity, then come from real account; anyone can message from a fake account)."

"I’ve faced this and it doesn’t affect me because my country stands up for me. I’ll only say to Arshdeep, don’t let this hamper you because your talent is immense," he added.

After winning their campaign opener against Pakistan in Group A, the Men in Blue suffered a five-wicket loss at the hands of Pakistan players on Sunday. Team India will next face Sri Lanka, who defeated Afghanistan in the Super Fours opener, on Tuesday in Asia Cup 2022.
