India tennis ace Sania Mirza had a forgettable day at the Abu Dhabi Open 2023 on Monday (6 February). The doubles pair of Mirza and her American partner Bethanie Mattek-Sands suffered to a straight set defeat against the Belgian-German pair in the first round of the tournament.

The Sania-Bethanie duo lost 3-6, 4-6 to the pair of Kirsten Flipkens and Laura Siefemund in a match that lasted for one hour and thirteen minutes to make an early exit.

Sania Mirza was last seen at the Australian Open 2023 where the Indian star player finished runners-up in the Mixed Doubles alongside Rohan Bopanna. The six-time Grand Slam winner had earlier announced that the Australian Open will be her last Grand Slam of her illustrious career.

However, it is to be noted that the Dubai Tennis Championships, which kick starts on February 27 will be her last tournament in her professional career. The 36-year-old will feature in the tournament, partnering with American tennis player Madison Keys.
