The 132nd edition of the Durand Cup, the oldest football tournament in Asia, is underway, with 24 teams vying for the coveted trophy. The youngest club in the competition, Bodoland FC, will face Rajasthan United FC in the opening game in Group F on Saturday, August 5.
Bodoland FC is a club based in Kokrajhar, Assam, and was established in 2022. The club gained its official AIFF registration by claiming victory in the first-ever Inter Sixth Schedule Premier League (ISPL). Before this Durand Cup, Bodoland FC participated in the Baji Rout Cup last year and even won 2-0 against Odisha FC.
The I-League club Rajasthan United is coming off a poor 2022-23 season in which they finished ninth and were out of the Super Cup in the first qualifying round. The Jaipur-based side has a lot of incoming free transfers this season, including Sairat Kuima from Mohemeddan and young talent Lalchungnunga Chhangte from Hyderabad FC, who is on loan.
