An elderly CSK fan was reportedly beaten to death by Mumbai Indians supporters after he celebrated Rohit Sharma’s wicket in the IPL 2024. A cricket discussion between an elderly CSK fan and two MI fans turned into a tragedy in Kolhapur, Maharashtra. According to reports, an altercation took place when the CSK fan celebrated Rohit Sharma’s wicket in their match against SunRisers Hyderabad on March 27 and discussed Mumbai’s winning chances against Hyderabad in the match.
According to ABP Majha, the fan identified as Bandopant Bapuso Tibile, 63, was assaulted by two Mumbai supporters after he celebrated Sharma’s wicket while watching the game on television in Kolhapur. Tibile’s celebration left Sharma’s fans agitated and it led to a violent assault with wooden sticks and the 63-year-old received some fatal injuries.
He was taken to the hospital but the elderly fan couldn’t survive the injuries and passed away. Kolhapur’s Karveer police arrested the attackers Balwant Mahdev, aged 50, and Sagar Sadashiv Jhanjge, aged 35, and they, along with Tibile were residents of Hanmantwadi, Kolhapur. Talking about Mumbai Indians’ clash against SunRisers Hyderabad, the Orange Army posted the highest-ever score of 277 runs with the loss of three wickets.
Hardik Pandya and Co. won the toss and opted to bowl first. In the second innings, they fell short of 33 runs and surrendered to the SRH bowlers at 246 for five wickets in 20 overs. Mumbai Indians will lock horns against Rajasthan Royals in their first home game of the season on April 1, whereas SunRisers Hyderabad clash against Gujarat Titans on March 31 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
