In a big update, world number 4 tennis player Elena Rybakina has withdrawn from the ongoing French Open 2023. Her decision to pull out of the event came on Saturday, June 3 after she wasn’t feeling her best. The reigning Wimbledon champion addressed her decision at the press conference and revealed that she had been feeling unwell after second round match.

The Kazakh-player further added that she had hoped to regain complete fitness, but has been struggling with fitness lately. The 23-year-old also spoke of experiencing symptoms such as fever, headache, and difficulty sleeping.

"I saw the doctor and they said that actually, it's all a virus here in Paris. I guess with my allergy, immune system just went down and I picked up something. As I said, I was not sleeping well for two days. I had a fever, headache. I think you can hear [my voice] also,” Elena said. She further added, "So, yeah, it's difficult to perform and obviously to run and even breathe. So I think that was the only right decision I could make."

The Kazakh defeated Brenda Fruhvirtova in the first round, winning 6-4, 6-2  and she then beat Linda Noskova 6-3, 6-3 before her unfortunate withdrawal. Her opponent Sorribes Tormo received a walkover and will go on to the fourth round of the French Open.

Just a few weeks ago, Elena Rybakina clinched her biggest title on clay after winning a WTA 1000 tournament at the Italian Open .
