The 2021 US Open champion Emma Raducanu has been dealt with a major blow as she now remains doubtful for the first Grand Slam of the year. The 20-year-old suffered an ankle injury in a warm-up event ahead of the Australian Open 2023. The Grand Slam will take place between 16-29 January 2023.
The British tennis player twisted her left ankle on Thursday during her only warm-up event before the start of Grand Slam at ASB Classic in New Zealand. She was forced to retire and was left in tears as she approached the net to shake hands with her second-round opponent Viktoria Kuzmova.
The young tennis star returned to court for her warm-up game with a fully strapped ankle. Now it has to be seen whether she will be fit to play in the Australian Open which is just eleven days away.
The British player won the first set 6-0 in 22 minutes but faltered in the second set. She also examined her left ankle during the time-out but later retired before completing the second set with injury.
