The Jos Buttler's side was looking forward to a winning start but failed to deliver a remarkable performance with the bat. Except for Joe Root, as no player from their side could reach the 50-run mark in the match and put a score of 282/9 on the scoreboard. Not only this, but the English men also failed to put up a good performance in the second innings.
Coming to chase the target of 283, the Kiwis suffered a significant blow at the beginning of the second over itself as Will Young returned to the pavilion after a duck. However, their opener Devon Conway and youngster Rachin Ravindra took the steering and guided the team to a nine-wicket win. Conway remained unbeaten at 152 off 121, while Ravindra was not out at 123 off 96 balls in the first match of the biggest ICC tournament.
