The ICC ODI World Cup 2023 officially kicked off on October 5 with a rematch of the 2019 World Cup final as England took on New Zealand. Despite no opening ceremony, the hype around the tournament has been massive but for the tournament opener, there was just around 20% of the crowd at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Cricket fans, from around the world, were keen to point out this fact and complained that the organisers had failed to start cricket's biggest spectacle in such a poor manner. Some also called out the Indian supporters for not filling up the stadium for one of the biggest matches in the World Cup.
