
England w omen’s football team also heralded as Lionesses, have finally gotten the white shorts switched to blue shorts for their national kit as revealed by Football Association (FA) on April 3. The decision was taken after many of the players raised their concerns continuously over wearing white shorts during periods in recent times.
England forward Beth Mead spoke to the Lionesses kit manufacturer Nike about her and the team’s feedback regarding the white shorts last July. The UEFA Euro champion was quoted as saying, “That is something we have fed to Nike. I think hopefully they are going to change that.” She also doubled down on the matter, “It is very nice to have an all-white kit but sometimes it's not practical when it's the time of the month.”
The new kit that includes the white jerseys and blue shorts, also manufactured by Nike and will be worn for the first time at Wembley when the England Lionesses take on Brazil in the first-ever Women’s Finalissima on April 7. Next, they will play Australia in a friendly at Brentford on April 11 before heading down under to take part in the Women's World Cup, starting on July 20. According to reports, the fans will be able to purchase the newly minted kit of the England women’s football team on June 5.
Meanwhile, the issue of women’s sports athletes wearing whites came under scrutiny in relation to Wimbledon last year. And shortly afterwards, the Championships decided to exempt women’s tennis players from their all-white dress code by allowing them to wear dark shorts from this year.
