The 2023 edition of the Cricket World Cup is just around the corner with the marquee tournament set to be played in the Indian sub-continent entirely for the first time. The 50-over World Cup will commence on October 5 with the final set to be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium on November 19.

 

Just days ahead of the start of the marquee tournament, England’s 2019 World Cup winning captain Eoin Morgan has picked his side which is highly likely to lift the 2023 ODI World Cup title. In his interview with RevSportz, Morgan revealed that Rohit Sharma-led Team India are the favourites to lift the glory stating the home advantage.

 

D espite his home country England entering the tournament as defending champions, he picked India above them. “England are a very good team. I will rate them second favourites after India but only just. India on home soil is the favourite and are a very good team. That’s been the case for the last few World Cups. India in 2011, Australia in 2015, England in 2019 and India against in 2023,” the former England skipper stated.

 

The 36-year-old however further added that England has some brilliant batters as well as bowlers in their lineup and “their talent will make a big difference come the business end of the tournament.”

 

It is to be noted that reigning champions, England will kick start their campaign against 2019 World Cup semifinalists New Zealand on October 5 at the Narendra Modi Stadium. However, the Men in Blue will begin their tournament against Australia on October 8 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
