Turkey and Italy are set to kick off the opening match of the 2020 European Championships at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome on June 11, as per the fixtures announced. Meanwhile, the reigning champions Portugal will start its campaign against Hungary in Budapest on June 15. The final of the competition is set to be played at the Wembley Stadium, London on July 11.

Some matches had to be relocated

Notably, the UEFA committee has decided to relocate some of the matches of Euro 2020, keeping in the mind the crowd capacity allowed at these venues as the world continues to battle COVID-19. As many as four matches initially scheduled to happen in Bilbao have now been moved to the Estadio La Cartuja in Seville. The move comes after the Autonomous Community of Andalusia confirmed that it intends to allow 30% capacity crowd for the three Group E matches and Round of 16 match.

Similarly, three Group E matches initially scheduled for Dublin, will now happen at the Saint Petersburg Stadium, which is already hosting three Group B matches and a quarter-final. In addition, the Round of 16 match initially scheduled to take place in Dublin, will be moved to Wembley Stadium in London.

It is to be highlighted here that the decision of the local authorities at some of these venue had made it unlikely for the spectators to be present at the stadium. Hence the UEFA proposed to relocate these matches to other venues where the fans will be allowed to watch live football matches in stadiums. UEFA's flagship national competition thus looks set to be played in the presence of some fans.
