The highly anticipated Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 Qualifier 2 belonged to Punjab Kings (PBKS), who defeated Mumbai Indians (MI) by five wickets with one over to spare, to reach the final of the tournament, where they will be taking on Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). In front of the thousands of fans in attendance at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Shreyas Iyer played a captain’s knock of 87* runs in just 41 balls with five fours and eight sixes, to take PBKS over the line in pursuit of the 204-run target.
It was the key partnership of 84-run stand for the fourth wicket with Nehal Wadhera, who scored 48 runs in 29 balls with four fours and two sixes, which set up the run chase for PBKS before Priyansh Arya and Josh Inglis took down the MI pacers in the powerplay stage. Earlier, in the first half of the game, MI had posted a competitive total of 203/6 in their allotted 20 overs on the back of 40s from Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav apart from a late flourish from Naman Dhir in the death overs.

With this massive win, PBKS have made the IPL final for the first-time in 11 years, pursuing their first title in history under captain Shreyas Iyer, who has already led two teams in the summit clash before. The experience of winning the IPL trophy last year with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) could come in really handy for Shreyas Iyer and PBKS when they take on RCB in the 2025 final of the IPL on Tuesday, June 3, at the same venue.
