The two-day IPL auctions brought happy smiles to many players' faces. While many players miss out to earn the trust of the franchise, few were able to regain it, and some rare players did it for the third time in a row. Yes, Ishan Porel is one such lanky pace bowler who will be seen in the red jersey after the Punjab franchise secured the services of bowler for Rs. 25 Lakhs.

In an exclusive telephonic conversation with SportsTiger, Ishan Porel expressed his happiness over his association with the Punjab franchise and said, "I feel honoured and would like to express my gratitude towards the owners and management of Punjab franchise. Although I haven't got much chance to show my potential yet, I am hopeful that I'll do well whenever I get it."

Ishan was happy that Delhi Capitals also showed keen interest in securing his services. Still, eventually, it was Punjab Kings who bestowed trust in him. "Though I was expecting more franchises to participate in bidding for me, as I am yet to make a mark in the tournament, it was expected. Once ill get a couple of matches, everyone will know me and understand what potential I possess", said Porel.

Ishan represents Kolkata state in Ranji Trophy and is hoping to do well in the premium domestic tournament. "My priority at the moment is Ranji Trophy. If I perform well in the domestic circuit, that will set the right foundation for IPL. Although both the tournaments are in different formats, performing well in Ranji Trophy will boost my confidence."

Ishan was named one of four additional bowlers to travel with the Indian cricket team for their tour to Australia. His services were also used in nets for India's tour of Sri Lanka. Following positive Covid cases in the Indian camp, Porel was added to India's main squad for their final two T20I matches of the tour. While sharing his experience, Porel said that it was a great learning curve for him.

"Sharing dressing room with Rahul Dravid (coach) and Shikhar Dhawan (skipper) enlightened me a lot, and I understood the game well," Porel said.

The pacer believes that young aspirants like him are privileged to have seniors like Rahul Dravid. "He is just a call away. He is such a nice person by heart. He taught me to stay grounded and work on basics." Porel also feels that Punjab Kings has the perfect blend of experience and fresh faces, making them top contenders for the 15th season of the Indian Premier League.
