All-rounder Hardik Pandya played his first game as the captain of Mumbai Indians when his side clashed against his previous team Gujarat Titans in their respective campaign openers in the IPL 2024. The match took place on March 24 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Notably, Pandya, who led GT to their two-consecutive finals was traded back to his previous franchise ahead of the IPL 2024 auction. Pandya returned to MI and replaced their long-standing skipper Rohit Sharma as the captain.
The captaincy swap didn’t go well with the franchise’s fans, and the team as well as Pandya had to face the wrath of their followers. During the Sunday clash, when Pandya appeared for the toss alongside Shubman Gill, he was booed by fans and they started to chant ‘Rohit Rohit’.
