Cricket is hailed as an unofficial religion in the South Asian countries, especially India, wherein more than a billion fans adore the sport and their national team competing against all comers in the world. The cricketers are looked upon as demigods by fans and their success are revered for ages.
A few years ago, during his visit to India, Steve Waugh, the former World Cup winning captain of Australia talked about what the sport means to the country. He was quoted as saying, “In India, cricket isn’t just a sport, it’s a religion. Sachin is the God of cricket.”
Fans, in their unique ways, showcase their passion for cricket as its devotees, whether it’s turning up to the stadiums hours before the start of the game, painting the face and body with player and team names, creating fan communities, engaging with each other online, and of course, playing the sport together. Recently, a hilarious video has gone viral on social media, wherein fans were spotted playing cricket in a flowing river.
In the viral clip, a right-arm bowler delivered the ball from around the wicket, which the right-handed batter tried to smash through the covers while splashing up water, but it ended up in the wicketkeeper’s hands. The fielding team appealed with the umpire, who gave the batter not out. It led to the captain taking a review.

Moments later, in a funnier turn of events, the video had replays with ultra edge technology, wherein it showed that the batter did knick the ball through to the wicketkeeper. It led to the third umpire asking the umpire to overturn his call, who promptly did so, to send the batter back into the pavilion.
