Fernando Alonso looked rankled in Imola 2025 following his slump from the fifth spot to the 11th finish, despite his Aston Martin car being upgraded to enhance the competitiveness for the first time in the ongoing season. The upgrades accompanying tactical intelligence to save an extra set of medium tyres witnessed both Aston Martins making it to Q3 for the first time in the season. Alonso kicked off the race in the fifth position and maintained the spot in the initial stages of the contest. Seeing Lance Stroll, who was a few spots behind, Martin looked cheerful as the chances of a double score were at the stellar level.
However, things turned when many got a cheap pit stop under the subsequent Virtual Safety Car. The matter relapsed when the late Safety Car provided the opportunity for half the field to fit fresh tyres, at a point when Aston Martin had no realistic compounds left to use. Following the unlucky day, Alonso remarked, “It was just unlucky. The car was super today, we followed the McLaren and (George) Russell at the beginning of the race, which was definitely a good surprise for us to be that competitive at the front of the field. And then I think we were okay to secure P6, P7 with both the cars and then the Virtual Safety Car gave the opportunity to everyone to stop and exit in front of us and our race was over. So extremely unlucky, the car was competitive, I had a good fight.”
Alonso will look to forget Imola disappointment to go into Monaco GP with confidence
Alonso will look to move on from the unlucky event in Imola to enter Monaco GP confidently. With the track change, he will look to do wonders. “We’ll see next week at a different kind of track, so we’ll see if we can continue the form,” said Ferando in his statement regarding the upcoming challenge.
Talking about Aston Martin rankings in the team standings, it stands at the fourth spot. In the individual rankings, Alonso is holding the 17th spot. He will endeavour to achieve the maiden podium finish in Monaco.
