England forward Raheem Sterling stated that he will not return to Qatar for the FIFA World Cup 2022 until his family is fully safe after a burglary at his home in Surrey. The incident took place almost 24 hours before the Three Lions defeated Senegal to enter the quarterfinals in the World Cup.

The England and Chelsea winger had to rush back home from the Middle East after he got the news about his family home being burgled.  None of his family was at home during the time of the incident, but the winger was still allowed to leave the England camp out of concern for the safety of his family.

A source, as per the Sun, stated that the former Manchester City star has expressed that he isn’t leaving for Qatar until his 100% sure about his family’s safety. The source said, “Raheem has told everyone, ‘There is no way I’m going anywhere unless I’m 100 per cent sure that my family can be kept safe’.”

“He is security conscious and part of the reason they moved into the property was that it is on a very exclusive estate, with regular security patrols. Despite this, he has still managed to be targeted, which is very upsetting for Raheem and Paige. They have just moved back to London and want to feel safe,” the source further added.

Surrey police also confirmed they were investigating a burglary at a property in Oxshott. The authorities stated that they were contacted at 9 pm on Saturday after Sterling’s family returned home from an international trip. Here they discovered many missing items. The police aren’t clear about when the incident took place.

Sterling, in the FIFA World Cup 2022, scored once in the opening game against Iran. Then against the USA, he was subbed out in the 68th minute. In the last group game against Wales, Sterling remained on the bench as an unused sub.
