India will be up against Qatar in their next FIFA World Cup qualifiers 2022 match on June 3 at the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium in Doha. Currently, the Blue Tigers have three points from five matches and find themselves at the fourth spot of Group E of the qualifiers. In contrast the Asian Champions Qatar, lead the table with 16 points from six games while Oman are second with 12 points from five matches.

Notably, the eight group winners from qualifiers and the four best group runners-up will advance to the third round of World Cup qualification as well as qualify for the 2023 AFC Asian Cup. While Igor Stimac's side are virtually out of the World Cup race, they still have a chance to secure Asian Cup qualification. If they finish in the third spot, they will qualify for the next round of qualifications without the play-off round.

Their forthcoming matches against Qatar and then against Bangladesh on June 7 and Afghanistan on June 15. These matches will be very crucial for India and will give a chance to reach the third spot. However, it won't be an easy task for them as they still haven't won a single game in the qualifiers and their preparations have been far from ideal with the second wave of Coronavirus causing havoc in India.

India's journey in qualifiers in till now

While India lost both their matches against Oman, they have managed to gain a point each from draws against Qatar, Bangladesh and Afghanistan to earn their three points.
