After back-to-back wins in the Pool stage, the team lost their crossover match against New Zealand in a penalty shootout 4-5. The side will now face South Africa in Match 41 on January 28 at 7:00 PM IST at the Birsa Munda International Hockey Stadium in Rourkela.

The Harmanpreet Singh-led side is currently ranked sixth in the world and were placed in Pool D along with England, Spain and Wales. The side beat Spain 2-0 in their opening game in the tournament and then played a goalless draw against England in their next fixture. They then beat Wales 4-2 in the final match of the pool stage. They also beat Japan 8-0 in the 9 th -16th place match will be eyeing to finish with a better ranking before they end the tournament.
