5 Indian cricketers to miss yo-yo test ahead of Asia Cup 2023

The Indian squad under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma are set to begin their Asia Cup 2023 campaign on September 2, Saturday. The Men in Blue will lock horns with the arch-rivals Pakistan in their season opener. Ahead of the tournament, several Indian players in the names of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya underwent the yo-yo test and passed it successfully. However, there are five players who will miss the fitness test due to some reasons. Before the marquee event, the Indian cricket team is participating in the training and preparatory camp at the Karnataka State Cricket Association's (KSCA) Three Ovals campus in Alur, Bengaluru. While the former Indian skipper Virat Kohli openly posted his test score and revealed it (17.2), sources revealed that Hardik Pandya and Rohit Sharma also passed the test with flying colours. Meanwhile, as per the PTI, there are five Asia Cup 2023 bound names that didn’t undergo the test due to several reasons. 1. KL Rahul The first name that didn't undergo the test is India wicketkeeper batter KL Rahul, who is set to make a comeback on the field after a long gap. Rahul suffered a hamstring injury during the Indian Premier League 2023 season. Following the injury, the Karnataka-born cricketer underwent a surgery and was on a rehabilitation since then. The 31-year-old cricketer is set to make a comeback in the squad; however, it has been revealed that KL Rahul didn’t gain full fitness and selectors didn’t want to risk it before the upcoming tournament. #PAGE_BREAK# 2. Jasprit Bumrah India's ace fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been out of the competitive game since September 2022 as he pulled out of the series against South Africa at that time. Later, due to constant stress and pain in back, the 29-year-old had to underwent surgery in April 2023 and was in rehabilitation in Bengaluru since then. Bumrah was called back to the Indian squad and given the helm of the team in the recently concluded Ireland tour. The fresh set of players under the leadership of India's bowling sensation won the series 2-0. Since the squad has just returned from the tour, Bumrah doesn't require to undergo the mandate yo-yo test. #PAGE_BREAK# 3. Sanju Samson Despite a curvy performance lately, Sanju Samson has been called for the forthcoming mega tournament. Taking a look on his records, Samson has played 13 ODI games for India and scored 390 runs in them. The Rajasthan Royals skipper was a part of the Ireland series, along with the West Indies T20I and ODI squad. Since the 28-year-old was a part of the Indian contingent to Ireland, he has also reportedly exempted from the yo-yo test. #PAGE_BREAK# 4. Prasidh Krishna Indian pacer Prasidh Krishna was suffering from constant back issues, and it is the reason he was out of action since August 2022. Due to his stress fracture, the 27-year-old pacer was ruled out from the last season of the Indian Premier League. Meanwhile, the Bengaluru-born cricketer made an impressive comeback on the Ireland tour and scalped four wickets in two matches. Since Krishna was a part of the India's last T20I series, he is not required to take Indian team's standard fitness test. #PAGE_BREAK# 5. Tilak Varma The next name who has been given relaxation from the yo-yo test before the Asia Cup 2023 is Tilak Varma. The 20-year-old batter made an impressive debut during the India vs West Indies T20I series and scored 174 runs since then. Following that, the Mumbai Indians batter was included for the Ireland series. The Hyderabad-born has been exempted from the yo-yo test due to the same reason as other players who were called for the Ireland tour.
