5 players to look out for in Tamil Nadu Premier League 2023

The sixth season of the Tamil Nadu Premier League will kick off on Monday, May 12 with Lyca Super Kings taking on Karaikudi Karaikal in the opening game of this season. The one-month-long TNPL 2023 will be played from June 12 to July 12 with eight franchises from eight districts in Tamil Nadu fighting for the title. TNPL league stage games will be played at Coimbatore, Dindigul, Salem, and Tirunelveli with the opener in Coimbatore and the season finale in Tirunelveli. Like the IPL 2023, the impact player will be applied for the first time here as well and it will also see DRS for the first time in the tournament's history too. Many eyeballs are on this tournament now with it giving many success stories over the last few years, here are five players to look out for at TNPL 2023: 1) Varun Chakravarthy The India international will be in action for the Dindigul Dragons, who bought him for 6.75 lacs at the auction. Along with Ravichandran Ashwin who was retained, they will make a lethal duo for the Dragons. Chakravarthy had a good IPL with KKR even though the team did not qualify for the playoffs as he picked up 20 wickets in 14 games at an economy rate of 8.15. The mystery spinner had a mediocre TNPL last year with the Siechem Madurai Panthers picking up eight wickets in seven games at an economy rate of 7.08. He will be looking to take his IPL 2023 form into the TNPL and guide the Dragons to their first title. #PAGE_BREAK# 2) Vijay Shankar Shankar was bought by the iDream Tiruppur Tamizhans for a whopping 10.25 lacs at the auction. He was once believed to be Hardik Pandya's backup or even replacement but over the years his performances at the International level and the IPL have him out of favour of the selectors as of now. Shankar has more or less revived his form at IPL 2023 when he scored 301 runs in 10 matches at a strike rate of 143.5 playing for Gujarat Titans. Shankar is not bowling as he used to and is playing in the 11 as a pure batsman. It remains to be seen if he resumes bowling at the TNPL 2023. #PAGE_BREAK# 3)Ravichandran Ashwin Ashwin is the most senior international player at the TNPL 2023 and he was retained by the Dindigul Dragons. Ashwin had a great IPL 2023, paring up with Yuzi Chahal in the Rajasthan Royals playing 11 and he picked up 14 wickets in 13 games at an impressive economy of just 7.51. The RR all-rounder's contribution in the batting department has vastly improved as he played some important cameos for RR., Ashwin will try to get in some white ball practice, especially with the bat, ahead of the World Cup which is slated later this year in India. He has played not many TNPL matches over the years, except when he played seven games. Ashwin has 17 wickets in 13 games in the TNPL and 267 runs in just 10 innings. #PAGE_BREAK# 4)Thangarasu Natarajan The Sunrisers Hyderabad pacer was bought for 6.25 lacs by the Ba11sy Trichy in the auction. Natarajan’s knee injury has troubled him over the last few years and kept him out for the majority of the 2021 and 2022 seasons. Natarajan had an underwhelming IPL 2023 for Sunrisers Hyderabad picking up 10 wickets in 12 games at an economy of 9.11. The left-arm seamer was one of the first finds of the TNPL, playing for the Dindigul Dragons and the Lyca Super Kings. Even though he is not in great form, Natarajan is still lethal with the new ball and at the death, with a full IPL season under his belt, Natarajan could return to his best at TNPL 2023. #PAGE_BREAK# 5) B. Sai Sudarshan Sai Sudarshan became the most-paid TNPL player after Lyca Kovai Kings splashed 21.6 lakhs in the 2023 TNPL auction. Sudarshan had an excellent IPL 2023 with his highlight innings being the 96 off 47 balls in the final, unfortunately on a losing cause. Sudarshan made 362 runs in eight innings for the Gujarat Titans and was the rock in the middle order whenever he got a chance. He has played well for the Kings in the past two TNPL seasons with 694 runs in 17 matches. Ironically, Sudarshan currently earns more from TNPL than the IPL and he will be looking to justify his price tag.
