Popular for his verbal jibes from behind the stumps, Indian wicketkeeper-batter and Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant had a hilarious response when asked about his sledging strategy for former England captain Michael Vaughan. Pant will be making his much-awaited return to competitive cricket in the IPL 2024 after his fatal accident in December of 2022.
After 14 months of recovery, Pant has been declared fit by the National Cricket Academy and was given the NOC for playing the IPL. Ahead of his return, the Capitals star was invited to the Club Prairie Fire podcast, co-hosted by Vaughan and Australian legend Adam Gilchrist. The trio discussed various things in and around cricket before talking about sledging.
You’re focussing too much on social media: Pant to Vaughan
Gilchrist asked Pant about how he would sledge Michael Vaughan. Responding to the question, “I would say (to Vaughan) you’re focussing too much on social media,” Pant said as Gilchrist and Vaughan broke out laughing. When asked what he would say to Gilly to upset his rhythm while batting, Pant said: “He’s in his own zone, you cannot disturb these kind of people. Nothing much I can say to him.”
If your team is doing well, it’s a good thing: Rishabh Pant
Later in the podcast, Rishabh Pant was asked about being on the sidelines when the Indian team took down England 4-1 in the recent Test series. Pant said: “I don’t think so. If your team is doing well, it’s a good thing. I don’t feel bad about anything else. I just watched the cricket, I wasn’t taking any sides."
"Yes, you want your team to be the winner, but at the same time, cricket is something that you have to be a little neutral when you’re watching from outside. Of course, my heart and soul is with Indian cricket, so you want India to win.”
