Team India and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) legend MS Dhoni has dropped a massive hint on his participation in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. Dhoni, who has been associated with the Yellow Army since 2008, looked out of rhythm with his bat in the tournament. In 14 games, he scored only 196 runs at an average of 24.50. CSK concluded their 2025 campaign at the bottom of the tally with four wins and 10 losses. Following this year’s miserable performance, the question rises whether Dhoni will appear for the five-time IPL champions in 2026.
Recently, Dhoni appeared at an event in Chennai where he hilariously said that he hopes that the CSK don’t expect him to play for them for the next 15-20 years. “Me and CSK, we are together. You know, even for the next 15-20 years (crowd cheers). I hope they don’t think I’ll be playing for another 15-20 years," said Dhoni. The 44-year-old’s next remark alluded that he might show up for Chennai, next season. He also added, “It’s not about one year or two years. I will always be sitting in a yellow jersey. You know whether I’ll be playing or not in a while, but yeah, you know yourself."
MS Dhoni’s IPL achievements and record
MS Dhoni has played 278 matches in IPL in which he has racked up 5439 runs with 24 fifties at a strike rate of 137.45. Alongside Rohit Sharma, he is the only captain to win five trophies as captain. He also holds the feats of most final appearances (10) and most wins (136) as skipper.
In 2024, he passed CSK’s leadership baton to Ruturaj Gaikwad. This year, after Gaikwad’s exit from the tournament due to an injury, he handled the leadership responsibility but couldn’t deliver desired results to his side.
