With the ODI World Cup 2023 coming to a close, all eyes now sit at the T20 World Cup, set to take place next year in the USA and the Caribbean. But ahead of the T20 World Cup with India eyeing to end their decade long wait of an ICC trophy in June, all eyes are now glued to the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).  

According to reports, IPL 2024 is said to kick start on March 22 with five-time champions, Chennai Super Kings taking on Royal Challengers Bangalore in Chennai. While we will see major changes in the ten IPL franchises with majority of them releasing some key players ahead of the auction and eye to bring some set talent for the 2024 edition. Among some notable changes, the most important has been Hardik Pandya being traded to Mumbai Indians and Shubman Gill taking over the captaincy reigns for the 2022 champions, Gujarat Titans.

While the newly named skipper of Gujarat Titans (GT), Shubman Gill extended his delight to assume the captaincy, on Wednesday, November 29, the 24-year-old hared his first words in a video message. On being asked if the captaincy change has sunk in well, Gill asserted that it is a great feeling but until the time he plays the first match, it will not sink in completely.

“It’s going to take probably till the time we don’t play the first match, it’s not going to quite sink in. It’s a great feeling,” he said. “We all know captaincy come with a lot of things, and commitment is one of them, discipline is one of them, hardwork and loyalty is one of them,” he added. Adding on taking over the captaincy reigns, Gill said that as he has played under great leaders and that experience will mean a lot going into the 2024 edition.

Let's make it memorable: Gill ahead of IPL 2024

Soon after releasing Hardik Pandya, the Gujarat Titans announced Shubman Gill ass the next captain of the side for the 2024 edition. Sharing the excitement on being appointed the captain, Gill took to X (formerly Twitter), adding “I am proud to assume the Captaincy of Gujarat Titans and I cannot thank the franchise enough for their trust in me to lead such a fine team. Let’s make it memorable! To all the fans… #AavaDe!”

Talking about Shubman Gill’s performance in the 2023 edition, he finished as the Orange Cap winner having scored 890 runs from 17 innings with an average of 59.33 and strike rate of 157.80. His highest score in IPL 2023 was 129 and scored three centuries as well as four half centuries during the two-month long tournament.
