Former cricketer Mrinank Singh, who cheated five-star hotels, and India cricketer Rishabh Pant, has been arrested by the Delhi Police. The cricketer stayed in the premium suites of several luxury hotels, including the Taj Palace, and didn’t pay their bills. The cricketer was identified as Mrinank Singh, who represented Haryana in the state’s U19 cricket team. Police said that the accused was obsessed with leading a luxurious life.
Singh used to stay in five-star hotels and would party with models, click pictures, and travel abroad with his girlfriends. The former cricketer was arrested at the Delhi Airport when he was leaving for Hong Kong. Not only this, but he also managed to cheat India cricketer Rishabh Pant of ₹1.6 crore.
According to the Police, Singh told Pant that he was into the business of buying and selling luxury watches and jewellery. The accused used to pose as Karnataka's Additional Director General of Police, Alok Kumar to cheat luxury hotels.
Pant gave Singh his luxury watches, who gave a cheque to the international cricketer, which bounced. Additional DCP Ravikant Kumar said that Singh has also represented Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League. According to Kumar, “In July 2022, he went to the Taj Palace and told them he was a celebrated cricketer and had played in the IPL. He stayed there for almost a week and his bill was around ₹5.6 lakh. He left the hotel saying his sponsor, Adidas, would foot the bill. However, the bank account numbers and card details provided by him turned out to be fake.”
As per the investigators, Singh was a Delhi University student and later pursued an MBA from a college in Rajasthan. He also claims to have played the Ranji Trophy in 2021 and been part of the five-time IPL champions, Mumbai Indians from 2014 to 2018. Police said that they are verifying all his claims.
