Former Sri Lanka cricketer Saliya Saman was recently handed a ban after he was found guilty of violating the cricketing regulations. The former domestic cricketer was found guilty by the ICC Anti-Corruption Tribunal for violating the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) Anti-Corruption Code in the T10 league and has been handed a five-year ban.

Saliya Saman is among the eight inviduals who have been charged for violating the code of conduct during the 2021 edition of the Abu Dhabi T10 Cricket League. However, the 39-year-old was initially charged in September 2023 over the offences in relation to the same, recently he has been handed a ban which will keep him out of all cricketing action.

According to the statement, Saman attempted to manipulate several matches in the 2021 edition of the T10 League, but timely intervention by the ICC body helped them prevent the breaches. Furthermore, it is to be noted that the former Sri Lanka cricketer’s ban is backdated to 13 September 2023, which implies that he has already served two years of sanction.

The 39-year-old has been charged with the breaches of Article 2.1.1, 2.1.3 and2.1.4 of the ECB Anti-Corruption Code - all of which relate to match-fixing, attempts to fix matches and even engaging others in the corrupt conduct.

Speaking of Saliya Saman’s domestic cricket career, he scored 3662 runs in 101 First-Class matches at an average of 27.95, including two centuries and 22 fifty-plus scores. In List A cricket, he has featured in 77 games, where he has amassed 898 runs, whereas in T20s, he has scored 673 runs at a comparatively great strike rate of 129.92.
