Formula One racing team AlphaTauri  has confirmed that Nyck de Vries will be the Formula 1 driver for the 2023 season. Nyck de Vries replaces Pierre Gasly at AlphaTauri, who joins Aston Martin as Fernando Alonso’s replacement for 2023 season.

Notably, de Vries drove for Williams at the Italian Grand Prix after their driver Alex Albon was hospitalised for appendicitis.  The stand-in replacement finished strong when he made his F1 debut with Williams. He finished P9 to gain two points for the side at the Italian Grand Prix.

De Vries will join Yuki Tsunoda in the sister side of F1 Championship leader Red Bull Racing. “I’m extremely excited to be joining Scuderia AlphaTauri for 2023”, said Vries after this announcement. He also thanked Red Bull and the team for giving him a chance.

AlphaTauri Team Principal Franz Tost thanked Gasly and welcomed De Vries to the team. “We are pleased to start a new chapter with Nyck, who’s very much welcome at Scuderia AlphaTauri. I am looking forward to seeing him in our car and I’m confident that with Yuki and Nyck we will have a strong driver line up for 2023.”

Gasly has signed a multi-year deal with the Enstone-based team which will be pairing him with fellow Frenchman Esteban Ocon on the grid.
