Franco Colapinto, the Argentine F1 driver, is set to replace Australian Jack Doohan at Alpine in the next five races of the 2025 season. In their official statement about the latest development, Alpine stated that their newest driver signing Franco Colapinto will compete alongside Pierre Gasly at the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, set to be held at the Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Imola in Italy from May 16 to 18.
As per the report published in BBC Sport, apart from making their decision about giving the opportunity to Franco Colapinto to race for them in place of Jack Doohan, Alpine will also conduct a new evaluation about the drivers performance before the British Grand Prix in July. Moreover, before being removed from Alpine’s next five F1 races, Jack Doohan hasn’t scored a point for the team after racing for them for the first-time last year in the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
Obviously, this latest chapter is a tough one for me to take: Jack Doohan
Flavio Briatore, the Executive Adviser for Alpine, spoke about the performances of the team in the first five races of F1 season, which led to them taking the aforementioned decision. He said, “Having reviewed the opening races of the season, we have come to the decision to put Franco in the car alongside Pierre for the next five races.”
“With the field being so closely matched this year, and with a competitive car, which the team has drastically improved in the past 12 months, we are in a position where we see the need to rotate our line-up,” he further added. Moreover, Franco Colapinto spoke about being looking forward to race for Alpine, while remarking that it will “no doubt be intense and a big challenge for everyone” to do racing on three consecutive weekends, starting with Imola.
Jack Doohan said the following about his removal from Alpine’s driver seat for the next five races, “Obviously, this latest chapter is a tough one for me to take because, as a professional driver, naturally I want to be racing.”
