There have been a lots of debate about the future of skipper Rohit Sharma after India suffered a humiliating 184-run defeat in the Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Giving his opinion on the same, former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra said that it is completely Rohit’s decision to take a call. However, Chopra also stated that it is also upon head coach Gautam Gambhir and chief selector Ajit Agarkar to take decision on the same.

India are currently having as rough patch in Test as they have been able to win only one in the Test seven matches. "No captain would have done that thus far that he drops himself. Retirement is his personal call but selection is the selectors' job. However, as a captain, the selectors don't want to take that call. You have made him the captain for the entire tour. So you don't take that call mid-tour. So the call is now with Rohit Sharma," Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube channel.

Will Rohit drop himself in the team's interest?: Aakash Chopra

Joining the team after India’s win in the first Test in Perth, Rohit Sharma decided to bat in the middle order after KL Rahul had an impressive outing as an opener in Perth. However, the right-hander couldn’t get a big score in Adelaide and Brisbane, and decided to come back to open the innings in Melbourne. However, Rohit again failed to get a big score as an opener was out at the score of 3 and 9 respectively.

"Will he (Rohit) drop himself in the team's interest? I am not saying retirement. I am saying sitting out the Sydney Test as he is unable to contribute. It will be a fair call to take. But will he take that call and if he doesn't, will the selectors take that call mid-tour? Gautam Gambhir and Ajit Agarkar, guys you are on the spot this time," Aakash Chopra said.
