American Boxer Gervonta Davis is set to go behind bars after violating detention. Davis was sentenced to a suspended prison term for a hit-and-run case which included 90 days of home detention, with three years of supervised probation and 200 hours of community service and other programs that needed to be completed. But now a Baltimore judge has ordered Gervonta Davis to complete his jail term as he violated the conditions of his home detention.
The boxer moved to a Four Seasons hotel and then to a waterfront high-rise in South Baltimore neither of which moves were approved by the judge. The judge had ordered Davis to stay at his coach and trainer’s home in Baltimore. After an impromptu court hearing, Sheriff’s deputies took Davis into custody as the judge ordered the boxer to be jailed. Assuming his 90-day sentence began on the day of sentencing, May 5, Davis will be in prison for just over two months and due for release on August 3.
It was alleged that the boxer was driving a Lamborghini Urus SUV at around 1:50 am when he ran a red light and struck a Toyota Solara, injuring four people. He was charged with 14 traffic violations out of which he plead guilty to four of these traffic offences. Davis (29-0, 27 KOs) had knocked out Leo Santa Cruz in the sixth round only a few days before the accident. He has fought five times since, including a seventh-round knockout of Ryan Garcia in a high-profile fighting April. Davis will now not be able to proceed with his career until the latter stages of this year at the earliest.
