Reigning Champions, Gujarat Titans defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore on May 21, Sunday, by six wickets, thus ending RCB’s race to the playoffs in the Indian Premier League 2023. With this, the Faf du Plessis side became the sixth team to crash out of the tournament by the end of the league stage matches. While it was a heartbreak for the RCB players and fans, Lucknow Super Giants took advantage of the moment and posted a cryptic tweet for the latter.
Though the Bengaluru-based franchise ended their dream of winning the trophy this year as well, this season was indeed a memorable season for the team. All the wins and big knocks apart, one particular incident that got quite famous was the Virat Kohli-Gautam Gambhir verbal spat during one of the games in the season.
On Sunday, the fans were hoping that RCB would make it to the Eliminator of the season to face LSG in another thriller. However, as it didn’t happen, LSG took to Twitter and shared a cryptic post about their arch-rivals. Lucknow Super Giants wrote, "Give it? Take it? Let's leave it. Well fought, @RCBTweets. See you next season."
Notably, the infamous Kohli-Gambhir controversy took place on May 1 during the RCB vs LSG game, where the former RCB skipper got engaged in a verbal altercation with the LSG mentor Gautam Gambhir, following his spat with the LSG pacer Naveen-ul -Haq.
With eight wins from 14 games, Lucknow Super Giants finished third after the league-stage games and became the third team to make it to the playoffs this year. In the eliminator of the IPL 2023, they will clash against the five-time IPL champions, Mumbai Indians, who made it to the playoffs after defeating SRH in their last league game on May 21, Sunday. On the other hand, MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings will clash against the reigning champions in the first qualifier of the season on May 23, at the MA Chidambaram, Chennai.
