The third ODI between South Africa and India saw Tilak Varma, India's young middle-order batter, immensely struggle to score runs despite eating up a lot of balls. The Men in Blue were asked to bat on a two-paced pitch at Boland Park in Paarl and lost early wickets as openers Rajat Patidar and Sai Sudharsan departed cheaply.

Soon the Indian captain for the series, KL Rahul, also got after scoring 21 in 35 balls and made way for Varma. Batting with Sanju Samson, the Hyderab native failed to get going as he churned up too many deliveries. At one point in the first innings, the 21-year-old was batting at a score of 15 runs from 44 balls.
Addressing this poor batting effort, fans flooded social media with countless responses calling out Tilak Varma. Some even joked about Varma getting a spot in the Test squad after this defensive masterclass in the third ODI.
