In the match 44th of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, the Punjab Kings (PBKS) openers Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya got off to a flying start against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. This was the first time in the IPL 2025 that the young opening pair of PBKS managed to bat past the power play stage, and they kept the partnership going well into the second half of the team’s innings.
After the captain of Punjab Kings (PBKS), Shreyas Iyer, won the toss and decided to bat first, the PBKS openers Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya, especially the latter, took toll firstly against the three pacers of KKR. Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine bowled decent first overs after being brought into the attack by KKR captain, but then, both the opening batters smashed boundaries versus the top class spinners as well.
The opening stand for PBKS was eventually broken in the 12th over when Andre Russell dismissed Priyansh Arya for 69 runs in 35 balls with eight fours and four maximums, but at that time, he had put 120 runs on the board alongside Prabhsimran Singh. The right-handed opening batter also completed his fifty shortly afterwards.
The reactions from fans after Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh share exceptional opening stand:
