Gujarat Titans took down Mumbai Indians at the Narendra Modi Stadium to kick off their IPL 2024 season with six runs. This performance marked a victorious start to Shubman Gill's captaincy career which invariably spoilt Hardik Pandya's homecoming to the team he captained for two seasons and won the title in 2022.

After losing the toss, Gujarat Titans had a decent start with  Wriddhiman Saha scoring a quick-fire 19 in 15 balls before Jasprit Bumrah produced a stunning yorker to mark his return to the IPL. Then Shubman Gill continued his form from the 2023 season as he scored an impressive 31 before getting out to Piyush Chawla.

The MI bowlers started drying up the runs with Bumrah and Gerald Coetzee combining to bowl a stunning spell.  Weathering this fast-bowling storm, Rahul Tewatia found some form and targeted Luke Wood, who went for 19 runs. This late flurry pushed the Titans to a respective total of 168 in their 20 overs.

Gujarat continued this momentum and dismissed Ishan Kishan on a four-ball duck. But rescuing Mumbai, Rohit Sharma and debutant Naman Dhir stitched a quick partnership but the newcomer departed after a 10-ball 20. Then Dewal Brevis took control, as he and Sharma carried MI forward before the Indian captain got out at 43.

Brevis and Tilak Varma kept the scoreboard ticking before Gujarat Titans got back into the contest as they stopped the flow of runs. Mohit Sharma then dismissed Brevis, kick-starting the collapse. Then the Titans picked up the next five wickets while giving away just 12 runs and sealing a win in their first match of IPL 2024.
