In the latest development, the Hangzhou Asian Games, which was earlier postponed due to COVID-19, will now be held from September 23 to October 8, 2023. The governing Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) revealed on Tuesday that the task force, which was assigned to fix new dates for the competition, held various discussions with stakeholders to find a window for the Games.

Earlier, COVID-19 pandemic forced the organisers to postpone the Games in May and the Executive Board of Olympic Council of Asia had subsequently set up a task force to determine new dates. '

"The task force did a superb work during last couple of weeks. They met and held several discussions with the representatives of Chinese Olympic Committee, Hangzhou Asian Games Organising Committee and other stakeholders to find a new window for the Games," read the statement from Olympic Council of Asia.

The statement further informed that all the stakeholder including a major international sporting events mutually agreed to the decision and hence, the final dates were decided.

Hangzhou lies less than 200 kilometers (120 miles) from the country's biggest city Shanghai, which endured a month-long lockdown earlier this year as part of the ruling Communist Party's zero-tolerance approach to the virus.
