Former Bayern Munich head coach Hansi Flick has reportedly rejected Chelsea’s offer to take over Barcelona. Flick was sacked by Germany’s national team last September and has been available since then. Several reports have been doing rounds all over the internet; while some claim that the 59-year-old is the favourite to become the new coach of Barcelona, others have said that Flick has been appointed as the coach.
The reports by Catalunya Radio claimed that Flick has a 95% chance of becoming the new coach of Barcelona. He turned down the offers from Chelsea and Bayern Munich to get an opportunity at Barcelona. The reports also suggested that he wouldn’t prefer Bayern and would opt for a long-term project like the one at Barcelona. On the other hand, Fabrizio Romano said that Flick was never in talks with Chelsea and had been waiting for the Barca option for months.
In addition, Mundo Deportivo reported that the Blues approached Flick about replacing Mauricio Pochettino, after sacking him recently. However, he turned the offer down as he prioritised the Camp Nou. Flick was appointed interim Bayern manager in November 2019 and later joined the side as permanent manager in April 2020. Under his guidance, Bayern won the Bundesliga title in the first year, the DFP Pokal, and the UCL Final.
Bayern enjoyed massive success during his charge at Bayern with 70 wins in 86 games. The Bavarians also won their sixth Champions League trophy with Flick at the helm. However, Fansi had his fair share of struggles during his tenure with Germany, where the side crashed out of the 2022 FIFA WC in the group stages.
