After playing a crucial role for India on the field during his illustrious career, Harbhajan Singh has now taken up the responsibility to look after the issues of the common people. And the former India cricketer has already started working on it as Harbhajan Singh helped in the rescue of a 21-year-old Bathinda girl who was held captive in Oman.

The 42-year-old who is currently a member of the Rajya Sabha used his connections to bring back the girl to India. Kamaljeet Kaur who was “illegally held and manhandled by her employees” somehow reached out to Harbhajan Singh who called the Indian Embassy in Oman who took prompt action and located the girl and initiated the rescue process.

Notably, the girl’s passport and sim card were also confiscated by her employees. However, Kaur somehow managed a second sim card and contacted her parents in Barkandi village in Bathinda. The girl’s father contacted Singh who immediately called the Indian Embassy.

Asked about the incident, Harbhajan told PTI, "This wouldn't have been possible without the help of the Indian Embassy in Oman and our Ambassador Mr Amit Narang. His contribution has been invaluable."

"As far as my intervention is concerned, this Rajya Sabha seat is to help people in need and a daughter of our country was in need. I just did my job. It was very nice of the Indian Embassy to call me up and inform me that Kamaljeet is back home in Punjab, safe and secured."

Meanwhile, Kaur and her parents were highly thankful to Singh for his prompt action. "I can't thank Harbhajan ji enough. Unki bahut bada help raha aur unke phone ke baad mujhe Indian embassy se call aaya. (After Harbhajan called up, I got a call from the Indian Embassy). Just three hours from my flight on September 3, they handed me my passport and sim card."

Kamaljeet said the officials from the Indian embassy gave her a lot of confidence and in fact asked her why did her father pay the agent. "They were very nice and cordial. They told me ki aapne agent ko paise kyon diye. Hum toh aap ko waise hi chura lete. The embassy officials also checked on me to enquire if I had reached home safely.”
