Manchester United could be going into the upcoming FA Community Shield 2024 clash versus Manchester City without a slew of defenders struggling with fitness issues before the start of the new club football season. Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, and Luke Shaw are all doubtful for the high-stakes match.
Notably, Harry Maguire missed the final pre-season match for Manchester United against Liverpool last weekend, while Victor Lindelof got subbed off at half-time as a precaution. Aaron Wan-Bissaka was replaced in the closing stages of the 0-3 defeat for Manchester United versus Liverpool.
Although Luke Shaw and Lisandro Martinez returned to training in the build-up to the FA Community Shield clash this weekend, only the Argentine could be involved in the matchday squad, stated the Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hag. They could be fielding a back four of Harry Amass, Lisandro Martinez, Jonny Evans, and Diogo Dalot versus Manchester City.
In the pre-match press conference, the Dutchman said, “Harry Maguire missed the game, was a precaution but is still a question mark for Saturday, so we have training, we have to see whether he is fit enough or not to be available.”
“Victor played but also he’s a question mark and also Azza and Luke Shaw are both question mark, we have to assess them tomorrow. We think about Licha to be involved in the game,” he added.
