Indian wrestler Divya Kakran had won a bronze medal match in the 2022 Commonwealth Games on Friday as she defeated Tiger Lily Cocker Lemalie 2-0 in the medal match. Notably, this was her second medal at the Commonwealth Games as she had won a bronze in the 2018 edition of Gold Coast as well.

The wrestler has also bagged gold medals in the Asian Championships, and bronze in the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta-Palmbarg in the 68kg category. As the news broke about Kakran winning the bronze medal, wishes started pouring in for the young wrestler on social media platforms. Even Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also took to Twitter to congratulate the wrestling contingent including Divya Kakran for her outstanding performance at Games 2022.

However, Kakran hit back at the Chief Minister for not helping her financially when she needed it the most. In response to Kejriwal's tweet, Kakran wrote, "Heartfelt thanks to the Honourable Chief Minister of Delhi for congratulating me on the medal. I have a request, I have been living in Delhi for the last 20 years and have been training in my sport wrestling here, but till now I have not received any prize money from the state government, nor have I received any help.”

In another tweet, she requested Delhi's CM for felicitating financial help to her as the government of national capital is honoring other players. "My request is that I be felicitated like the way you honor other players — who despite being from Delhi — also play for other states,” she added in another tweet.

Kakran also shared a video from 2018, where she was seen sharing the similar ordeals with the Delhi Chief Minister while the politician invited all the athletes after they returned from the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, where she had also won a bronze medal.
