On Saturday, December 28, Australian pacer Mitchell Starc was seen struggling with some injury concerns. With India resuming their first innings in the fourth Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 on Day 3 at 164/5 with Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja in the middle, Starc was seen struggling with some back spasm.
However, the exact injury wasn’t revealed by any of the Australian cricket team members, the veteran pacer closed third day’s play with the figures 0/86 in his 25 overs bowled so far. While he continued to struggle with visible pain on his back, he failed get among the wickets as Pat Cummins and Scott Boland got a wicket each to their name, whereas Nathan Lyon scalped two.
He’s okay: Scott Boland shares BIG update on Mitchell Starc’s injury
Speaking at the close of Day 3’s play, Australian pacer Scott Boland shared a big update on Starc’s injury. “He’s okay. He just had a bit of a niggle somewhere in his back or rib, I don’t know, somewhere back there, but he came out after the break and was bowling 140km/h, so I think he’s going to be fine,” Boland said in the press conference.
Reckoning Mitchell Starc’s performance so far, Boland further went onto to laud the veteran Aussie pacer. “I think he is underrated for how tough he is. A couple of years ago here at the MCG, he had a broken finger and we’re pretty much planning for him not to bowl at all and then he came out and bowled 140km/h swingers,” Boland said.
“He’s someone who can play through a lot of pain, and you can probably tell (that because) he’s played close to 90 Test matches now. And as a fast bowler, there’s not many games where you do play without any niggle at all. He’s someone who can still bowl at the same pace even when he is really sore, which is a great trait to have,” Boland added.
At Stumps on Day 3, Indian scorecard read 358 at the loss of nine wickets. While Nitish Kumar Reddy went onto to put 105 off 176 deliveries, he is well supported by Mohammed Siraj, who is batting at two off seven deliveries.
