The sporting world continues to mourn the loss of the Shane Warne after his passing on 4 March 2022. Warne’s death also saw an outpouring of heartfelt and loving messages on various social media platforms. Out of these messages, one was from Sachin Tendulkar.

Both Warne and Tendulkar have been pitted against each other throughout their careers which resulted in some of the greatest individual battles in cricketing history.

But their greatest matchup was in Chennai, where Warne drew first blood dismissing Master Blaster for 4. Then in the second innings, Tendulkar retaliated with another insane 155 on the square spinning pitch.

But both these long-time rivals shared a great off-field friendship where they used to break bread together and meet each other at their homes. One such incident recently came up in Shane Warne’s recent documentary called ‘Shane’ on Amazon Prime. Warne was dining at Sachin Tendulkar’s home where he couldn’t finish a meal as it was too spicy for him.

“Sachin and I got along great, we were great mates and still are. When we got to India, it was Warne vs Tendulkar, it wasn’t Australia vs India. Everyone wanted to see it. I went to his place…I thought I will go for dinner and then go back to the hotel,” Warne had recalled in his documentary.

“I took a bite of the chicken to start with and nearly blew my head off. I kept cutting it up and moving it to the side. I had too much respect for him and for his family,” Warne said.

Discussing the incident, Tendulkar revealed that the leg-spinner couldn’t handle the spice but he didn’t want to hurt him. “I noticed that Shane kept nudging my manager all the time…my manager told me that Shane hadn’t eaten anything. While I am busy serving others, Shane is putting his food onto his plate and that’s when I realised Shane can not handle spicy food,” Sachin said in an interview with Hindustan Times.

“He didn’t want to hurt me, but he kept nudging my manager and saying ‘help me’. By the end of that evening, Shane had gone into the kitchen and was making sausages and beans and mashed potatoes – he ended up eating that at my place. That’s Shane for you,” he concluded.
