Washington Sundar, the Indian all-rounder, was an integral part of the squad in the Test series against England away from home, stepping up for his team consistently with both bat and ball. In the fourth Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, he scored his maiden century against England, helping India draw the contest before they levelled the series 2-2, thanks to a win by six runs in the fifth and final Test.
Recently. Washington Sundar talked about the impact that Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir has had on his life in an interview with Wisden. Gambhir has the role model for Sundar since his childhood, and revealed that the only thing he did not like about the fomer player was his performance and stats against him in the IPL. The all-rounder further added that, "Gautam Gambhir is an amazing human being. He has had so much faith in all of us that we would fight at all times and win the game. Really glad to see him happy at the end of the series."

Washington Sundar was also seen crediting the duo of captain Shubman Gill and head coach Gautam Gambhir for playing a major role in Indian cricket team getting over the line against England. Sundar stated that the belief that both of them showed in the squad was truly a motivating factor for the boys to up their game and not lose hope during any point of time.
The communication between Gambhir and Gill was very precise and clear which helped the team stick to their plans and believe in themselves. This belief was the reason why India managed to fight back and win the fifth Test at The Oval in London, to level five-match Test series. In the four matches that Sundar played in the series, he turned out to be a true gem for the Indian cricket team.
