Reigning Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz expressed his frustration getting down Grigor Dimitrov in the quarterfinal stage of the Miami Open 2024. Alcaraz said that Dimitrov made him feel like a teenager on the court. His journey in Miami came to an end on Thursday night after his 6-2, 6-4 loss, marking his second consecutive defeat against the Bulgarian. Alcaraz double-faulted twice in the opening set to bring the race to an end.
Moving ahead in the second round, Alcaraz remained under pressure after the latter broke him in the fourth game. While the Spaniard put in extra effort to make a comeback, it proved to be too little. After slumping to his counterpart, Alcaraz said, "He made me feel like I'm a 13-year-old. It was crazy.
"I was talking to my team saying that I don't know what I have to do. I don't know his weakness. I don't know anything. That's why I have frustration right now. But in the fight of tennis, I left the court happy with my level."
Further speaking, Alcaraz said, “I think I played good tennis. I mean, I left the court thinking that probably I had to change my game a little bit earlier, but anyway, I feel like I played good tennis. Not perfect but a good one.”
The 20-year-old said that he played better than he did in Shanghai last year when Dimitrov defeated him 5-7, 6-2, 6-4. He further added, “I think I played good tennis. I mean, I left the court thinking that probably I had to change my game a little bit earlier, but anyway, I feel like I played good tennis. Honestly, in Shanghai, I didn't play too well, I think I played better today than the second and third set in Shanghai.”
